Edwin (Ted) Cloake

Oct 4th 1931 — Mar 18th 2023 (91 years)

Biography

It is with a heavy heart but gratitude for the peace he now has that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Edwin (Ted) Cloake peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2023 in his 92nd year.

Anyone who knew Ted will remember his joy for life and in particular his dry wit, healthy and sometimes inappropriate sense of humour.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Leslie, his sons Nicholas and Jonathan (Clare), daughter Lisa (Rob), granddaughters Leanne (Gary) and Samantha (Matt), and grandsons Steven (Chris) and Ben. Great-grandchildren Riley, Hollie and Mason. Beloved sisters Eileen (late Michael), Patricia (Lynn), and brother Peter (Sally), as well as many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by sister Sylvia (1989).

Ted had a colourful life from the beginning, born to parents in service at Saltwood Castle. His playground, the castle grounds, and his playmates, foreign royalty. He served 15 years in the Royal Navy including during the Korean War. He memorialized his interesting life and encounters in a book shared with his family.

Ted had many different career paths throughout his life. From working on movie sets, to chauffeuring various celebrities around, to selling cookware, and property management. But his favourite of all was golf marshalling after "retirement."

The family wishes to extend the most sincere thanks to all of the staff at Southlake Residential Care Village. If it weren't for their kindness and devotion to the residents in their care, especially Ted, we would not have had the extra time we were so privileged to enjoy.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. Details will be provided at that time but all are welcome to raise a glass for Ted. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Southlake Residential Care Village.
